The 'My Street' programme is a community-led initiative that provides leadership-development, training and mentoring support to residents who are interested in learning how to plan, organise and host activities in their own streets in order to build communities that are safe, strong, caring & connected.  Through this we also aim to help improve civic engagement.  If neighbourhoods are at the heart of communities, then families are at the heart of our neighbourhoods.  The benefits of strong and healthy families feed outwards into the neighbourhood and the community, and the neighbourhood and community, in turn, feed back into the strength of the family.

Community – led recovery
We recognise that people are capable of identifying and solving problems for themselves and the most sustainable improvements in community occur when people in communities harness their own power to act and participate in problem solving.
We recognise that communities have strengths and assets
We will encourage community building that focuses on people’s strengths and assets and making these resources stronger.
Strengthen Community Leadership
We will support citizen and community resident voluntary leadership.
Do things differently
Community Builders will work creatively, building trust, building bridges & learning new things.
Utilise community assets
Community builders will be encouraged to make the most of neighbourhood and community physical assets/facilities.

Below are our 2019-2022 streets that we are working with.  All street leaders under our program receive the following:

- Access to the shared streets leaders activation shed which contains a wide range of free resources for street reps to activate their streets free of charge.
- Funding support.
- One on one mentoring & Online group support and regular group workshop training.
- Pathway support into local community Network forums and groups.

This project is made possible by the support of ADRA New Zealand, Foundation North and the Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board.  Check out where this journey started HERE.
